USE: REPORTS OF QUESTIONS
Se usa el pasado perfecto simple para reportar declaraciones cuando el verbo principal de la cláusula introductoria está en pasado simple.
Oraciones principales
(op). One morning she was listening to the radio, when suddenly the announcer said that the police had arrested a man who had stolen five expensive and unique paintings.
Una mañana estaba escuchando la radio, cuando de repente el locutor dijo que la policía había arrestado a un hombre que había robado cinco pinturas caras y únicas.

Uso del Pasado Perfecto Simple en Estilo Indirecto
Función Principal
El past perfect simple se utiliza para reportar declaraciones o pensamientos cuando el verbo principal está en pasado. Esta estructura es especialmente importante para nivel B2 ya que permite expresar secuencias temporales complejas en el discurso reportado.
Estructura
Verbo principal en pasado + that + sujeto + had + participio pasado
- She said that + he had arrived (Ella dijo que él había llegado)
- I knew that + they had finished (Yo sabía que ellos habían terminado)
Diferencias con el Español
En español, el pluscuamperfecto (había + participio) funciona de manera muy similar al past perfect inglés en estos contextos:
- Inglés: He told me that she had left
- Español: Me dijo que ella se había ido
Usos Específicos
- Para reportar eventos anteriores: Cuando reportamos algo que pasó antes del momento de hablar
- En oraciones con verbos como: said, told, explained, reported, knew, realized
- Secuencia temporal: Indica que la acción reportada ocurrió antes que el verbo principal

- Noticias y reportes: The news reported that the accident had occurred at dawn
