Uso de 'they/them' para referirse a pronombres indefinidos cuando no conocemos el número o género de la persona.
Oraciones principales
(op). If someone is watching a film that they don't like, they can always choose another channel to watch.
Si alguien está viendo una película que no le gusta, puede elegir otro canal para ver.
Ejemplos
(1). If anyone wishes to make any presentation they can contact Mr. Hari, Events Department.
Si alguien desea hacer alguna presentación, puede contactar al Sr. Hari del Departamento de Eventos.
(2). If a student wants to make music there is no point teaching them science, but to be a good musician I think general knowledge is important as well.
Si un estudiante quiere hacer música, no tiene sentido enseñarle ciencias, pero para ser un buen músico creo que el conocimiento general también es importante.
(3). When somebody calls the office, they should speak clearly so the receptionist can help them efficiently.
Cuando alguien llama a la oficina, debe hablar claramente para que la recepcionista pueda ayudarle eficientemente.
Uso de Pronombres Neutros They/Them
¿Cuándo usar they/them?
En inglés, they/them se usa como pronombre neutro cuando nos referimos a:
- Someone (alguien)
- Anyone (cualquiera)
- Everyone (todos)
- A person (una persona)
- A student/teacher/etc. (cuando hablamos en general)

- If + pronombre indefinido + verbo + they/them/their
Diferencias importantes con el español

En español: Usamos el masculino genérico o repetimos el sujeto
- “Si alguien quiere participar, puede contactarnos”
- “Si un estudiante necesita ayuda, el estudiante debe…”

- “If someone wants to participate, they can contact us”
- “If a student needs help, they should…”

- Es la forma estándar y apropiada en inglés formal
