FORM: VERB + ADVERB + PREPOSITION

Estructura avanzada que combina 'there' con verbos modales o semi-modales seguidos de 'be' para expresar existencia, necesidad, obligación o probabilidad futura.

(1). In the library there needs to be school books and also other books and magazines.

Verbos modales y semi-modales más comunes

  • There + must/have to + be: Obligación o deducción lógica

    • There must be a solution (Debe haber una solución)
    • There has to be someone at home (Tiene que haber alguien en casa)

  • There + should/ought to + be: Recomendación o expectativa

    • There should be more public transport (Debería haber más transporte público)

  • There + might/may/could + be: Posibilidad

    • There might be delays (Podría haber retrasos)

  • There + is going to + be: Futuro planificado o inevitable

    • There is going to be a meeting (Va a haber una reunión)

  • There + used to + be: Situación pasada que ya no existe

Diferencias con el español

Importante para hispanohablantes:

  1. En español usamos directamente el verbo modal + ‘haber’: debe haber, puede haber
  2. En inglés es obligatorio usar ‘there’ al inicio y ‘be’ después del modal
  3. Error común: Must be a problem → There must be a problem
